A dedication to education

One of the reasons Okanagan Specialty Fruits was such a great fit for me was their dedication to education. I never cease to be impressed by how we strive to offer transparent, easy to understand information about biotechnology, apple farming, and Arctic® apples themselves.

My interest in helping people better understand science and agriculture truly bloomed in university. I met a lot of people with very little background in either agriculture or science, and I understood where they were coming from. I didn’t grow up on a farm and what was obvious and second nature to many of my fellow Agriculture students was often new to me. I went out of my way to get first-hand experience, but not everyone has the time or resources to do that.

When asked to work on an education page for our website to help students better understand biotechnology, agriculture, and Arctic® apples, I jumped at the chance. The resources listed are all free and created with U.S. or Canadian curriculum links in mind so they can easily be integrated into the classroom. Resources were chosen for the topics they cover, as well as their use of hands on activities, critical thinking, and their connections to math, science, and literacy.

If you know a teacher or student who might be able to make use of these, please share! As well, let us know if you stumble across any great additions, we would love for this list to grow.

Enjoy and remember to keep learning!

Hi Mona, thanks for inquiring! Unfortunately Arctic(r) apples are not available in Canada just yet. Our commercial launch this fall takes place in select US locations only, with Canada on the docket in the next few years. I encourage you to check our website from time to time for updates on Canadian availability.
