A juicy trend towards healthier beverages

Health-conscious consumers are increasingly keeping an eye out for innovative new products that help them get more of what they want (convenience, great taste), and less of what they don’t (empty calories, additives).

Drinkable ways of achieving these objectives is no exception, and we all know that of 5+ servings of fruits and veggies can play a crucial role. Beverage Industry Magazine published a comprehensive analysis of beverage trends earlier this month, and their article identified some interesting trends. Per the title, “Juice smoothies, flavor innovations trending in juice category”, which is great news because this shift appears to be tied to reduced interest in sugary, carbonated beverages.

Consumer demand for blended juices with multiple fruits and vegetables are on the rise thanks to concern for nutritional intake. An especially popular technique emerging is combining healthful vegetables such as spinach or kale with fruit juices (like apple!) for sweetness.

Even with healthy, blended juices trending up, the rise of juice smoothies is even more notable. The number of juice-smoothie-consumers has nearly doubled over the past six years and that number continues growing.
