Giving thanks for Arctic® apple feedback

While our newly planted Arctic® apple trees aren’t producing fruit just yet, we had just enough Arctic® fruit to send a few sample boxes to some eager apple lovers over the past month.

And, if there’s one thing we’re thankful for this U.S. Thanksgiving (even if we are mostly Canadians at OSF!) it’s all of the awesome feedback we’ve seen from recipients of these Arctic® apple samples:

  • Arctic apples vegan potluckJournalist Emily Waltz was the very first to receive samples, and she and her children really put them to the test! As she explains in a post on NY Times’ “Motherlode” website, they passed with flying colors (well, mostly white)!
  • Some Arctic® Golden slices were served at a potluck next to conventional Golden Delicious slices, and as the photographic evidence shows, attendees had a clear preference.
  • Food Science Professor John Coupland ran an informal experiment of his own, making some Arctic® applesauce to compare with conventional applesauce. Unfortunately, he forgot to label them! Perhaps you can spot which one’s made from Arctic® apples??

Plus, that’s just a small sampling of those who, er, did some sampling! We’ll be sharing lots more feedback via our @ArcticApples Twitter account so everyone can live vicariously through others until Arctic® apples are readily available.

We wish we could share samples with everyone, after all, but luckily, we’ll have increasing amounts of apples available each year going forward now that Arctic® apples are approved, and that’s certainly another thing we’re thankful for!!

I am a shareholder of Intrexon & it is my largest holding. It is very exciting to watch this new engineered technology applied to food sources to reduce waste and artificial preservatives. Would love to try these apples. Can I buy them anywhere yet. I live on Long Island.
If they are not available for purchase yet I would love to try a sample. Home address is 61 Meadow St., Garden City, NY 11530.
    Thanks and best of luck!

      Hello Chris,

Thanks so much for your interest in sampling our nonbrowning Arctic® apples! We are all out of samples from our 2015 harvest, unfortunately, but hope to have some small test market quantities available in 2017.

We hope you’ll keep an eye on our website and social media channels for updates on availability, and please feel free to email us at if you ever have any questions or would like an update!
