Introducing Miss BC Interior (aka Emily Henderson, Miss Arctic® Apple)!

A passionate young women, Emily Henderson, introduced herself as “Miss Arctic® Apple” on our blog last month. Fast forward a few weeks and she has a new title to add – Miss BC Interior! Out of a pool of extremely strong candidates, Emily was chosen to represent our great region for the next year, and we are thrilled for her! Today, “Miss Arctic® Apple” shares her experiences from the Miss BC event itself, and her goals for the year to come:

It’s been nearly two weeks since one of the most extraordinary weekends of my life, the Miss BC Pageant, and it still feels surreal. I took home the title of Miss BC Interior, and I couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming year. I’m also extremely grateful to Okanagan Specialty Fruits, who made it possible for me to partake in this amazing experience by being my sponsor!Miss Arctic Apple

Those three days spent down on British Columbia’s west coast with 38 other women of all ages shattered so many stereotypes about pageants. Yes, there were high heels and we did our hair and makeup together, but we also bonded and learned together. Before I arrived, it was suggested that some girls might be catty, or would see the event strictly as a competition. I am happy to say this simply wasn’t true! I have never felt such a profound bond with such a strong group of women in my entire life, and by the time crowning night had rolled around, most of us had forgotten it was a competition at all!

These were entrepreneurs and mothers and talented musicians, confident speakers, brilliant scientists; and as we were told repeatedly, there is room for all of us at the top. As women we are pitted against each other all the time, relentlessly compared to one another, and rarely celebrated for what makes us unique and what we can bring to the table. It didn’t matter who brought home titles after crowning, because we are all going to bring something special to the world.

The most important lesson I learned that weekend was what it meant to be a woman of substance. I have never felt so strong, and I have never felt so confident that I have a voice worth listening to. My platform going into the pageant was healthy lifestyles, healthy body image, and empowerment. Now, I feel even more assured that this is my path and this is what I should be using my voice for over the next year, and for the rest of my life.

I’m so grateful for all those that made the weekend so special, and I know that I have been set on a path of positivity and growth that will continue for the rest of my life. Who knew that just three days could do so much! I can’t wait to see what the future holds, and I can’t wait to empower others as I have been empowered.

We look forward to continue supporting Emily in her goals of promoting healthy lifestyles and healthy body images, and hope you’ll join us in following along with her progress!
