We are very pleased to share that the Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) has named Okanagan Specialty Fruits one of its “Fruits & Veggies—More Matters” Industry Champions for 2014!
We at OSF are humbled by this honor and the excellent company we share the title with, and are proud to help support PBH in their crucial goal of increasing produce consumption, especially among children. The official press release announcing the news has been shared by produce industry media outlets and can be viewed in full right here.
For those that aren’t familiar with PBH, they are a nonprofit whose mission, in their own words, is to “achieve increased daily consumption of fruits and vegetables for better health by…motivating key consumer influencers, and promoting fruits and vegetables directly to consumers.” Fruits & Veggies—More Matters is a health initiative spearheaded by PBH that aims to tackle these goals, and we can’t encourage you strongly enough to follow their efforts on Twitter, Facebook, and their other social media outlets!
One of the reasons we are so proud to support PBH and their initiatives is that, not only do they actively promote produce consumption in exciting and innovative ways, they do so while firmly relying on evidence to back up their recommendations. They also focus much of their efforts on providing resources to registered dietitians, who are increasingly important in ensuring consumers are educated about what a healthy diet entails (including plenty of apples of course)!
Additionally, they don’t hesitate to address controversial issues like biotech foods – in fact they embrace them. Just last summer, they published an issue of “Fruit & Veggie Connection”, a quarterly magazine for dietitians, which focused specifically on ag-biotech. It included answers to common ag-biotech questions, the technology’s potential applications, and even a feature on Arctic® apples!
We are eager to continue supporting PBH and “Fruits & Veggies—More Matters” throughout 2015 and beyond, and hope you will as well!
