Preservative free makes snacking easier for those with allergies

Millions of people are living with food allergies, making something as simple as grabbing a quick snack a challenge to many. Food Allergy Research & Education reports that nearly 15 million Americans have food allergies and roughly one in every 13 children. In Canada, one in every two Canadians know someone with a food allergy.

Seeing that it’s Food Allergy Awareness Month we thought it was an important topic to discuss.  Sulphites are food additives that are used in many products as preservatives to maintain food color and prolong shelf-life. They can cause allergy-like symptoms and people with asthma are most at risk to sulphite sensitivity. One of the many benefits to the unique nonbrowning trait of Arctic® apples is that they are completely preservative free, unlike many other fresh-cut apple products. Sulfates are commonly found in many dried fruits, but our Arctic ApBitz dried apple snacks are also preservative free so that your mind can rest as ease knowing the only ingredient in our products is 100% Arctic® apples.

Allergies to tree nuts are among the most common food allergies and can result in potentially life-threatening reactions. Our Arctic ApBitz snacks are dried in a manner that delivers a sweet and unexpected crunch, much like a nut. Nuts can make great toppings for many dishes and the crunch from our dried apples offer a delicious alternative for those suffering from nut allergies. Here are a few of our favorite dishes to sprinkle ApBitz dried apples over top of:

  • Oatmeal
  • Yogurt
  • Ice Cream
  • Salads
  • Cereal

Using Arctic ApBitz™ dried apples as a topping is a great alternative for those suffering from allergies.
