Top Tier Apples

With March comes spring and many wonderful things, not the least of which is Apple Madness. A showdown of America’s favorite apples where voting for your favorite variety can win you prizes!

All this month USApple is hosting a race to determine your favorite kind of apple – shrinking the competition brackets from 32 varieties until only two remain in the National Chomp-ionship! There are over 100 varieties of apples grown commercially in the United States, and we all have our favorite!

Check out our top picks (in no particular order):

  • Fuji – This variety has risen in popularity thanks to it’s great taste and a crunch you can’t ignore! Fuji apples have only been in the US market since the 1980’s but have been a top 5 apple variety since the early 2000’s.
  • Golden Delicious – These guys add sweetness to any dish from salad to dessert! Goldens are an iconic apple thanks to their striking color and rich flavor.
  • Granny Smith – This green beauty brings instant recognition and a mouth watering tanginess to any party, making it as perfect for snacking as it is for pie!

We love these varieties so much that they are the first three to benefit from the Arctic® nonbrowning trait! Arctic® varieties keep all their best qualities, the only difference is that they don’t brown when bitten, bruised or sliced. Find out more about why we chose the Fujis, Goldens, and Grannys on our Arctic® Varieties page, and don’t forget to vote for your favorite varieties in Apple Madness this month!
